What is cluttering?

A

-Cluttered speech is difficult to understand
-Often, the speaker is unaware of own unintelligibility: lack of self-monitoring skills

What are symptoms of cluttering?

A

-Unusual speech rate: rapid or irregular, or
both
-Sounds and syllables get omitted
-robot-like speech when trying to speak slowly
- many non-SLDs
- articulation can sound slurred

Why is cluttering different from stuttering?

A
  • They dont really know what they want to say as their message gets lots in mazes
  • in most cases they arent aware
  • There are always rapis or irregluar speech rates
  • mostly non SLDS
  • speech rythm and melody is unusual in many cases

A
  • disorganized lang or convo skills
  • symptoms are controllable by the speaker to an extent(they can slow down w effort)
  • social/vocational issues from cluttering
  • sloppy handwriting
  • low attention span
    -auditory perception difficulties
