Week 4: Consequences, treatment, and, management Flashcards
What is fluency shaping?
Aims for stutter free speech by altering timing and tension of all speech, stuttering or not
What is stuttering modification?
aims to accept the stutter but modify it by changing attitudes towards stutter and assuming control over “something”.
Its used before, during, and after stuttering events
What are 3 types of stuttering treatments?
Fluency shaping, stuttering modification, and avoidance reduction
what are the techniques of Stuttering modification?
- prepset: used when sensing before stuttering to ease into speech
- pullout:used during to slide or stretch out a sound
- cancellation: after disfluency, pause, and start again repeating the previously stuttered word
What are the techniques of fluency shaping?
- rate control
-prolonged syllables
-easy onset:letting out air before speech - light articulation
what is avoidance reduction?
-Focus on identifying and eliminating ‘avoidance behaviors’
- avoidance behavior–> stuggle–>neg thoughts–>avoidance–>avoidance behavior
What are the 2 types of disfluencies?
-stuttering like disfluencies(sld)
- non stuttering like disfluencies(non-sld)
What are some SLDs?(stuttering like disfluencies)
-monosyllabic word repetition
- sound repetition
-syllable repetition
What are some non-SLDs?
- revision
- unfinished word
-phrase repetition
-interjection
-polysyllabic word repetition
