Week 5: Tissues Part 2 (Type/Location) Flashcards
Simple Squamous
Types: endothelium and mesothelium
Location:
- Air sacs (aveoli) of lungs
- Some kidney tubules
- Intestines
- serous membrane of stomach
- inner lining (endothelium) of heart and blood vessles
- surface mesothelium of pleura, pericardium
Function:
- rapid exchange of materials
- secrete lubricating serous fluid
Simple Cuboidal
Location:
-liver, thyroid, most kidney tubules, bronchioles,
Function:
- secretion
- absorption
Simple Columnar
Location:
- inner lining of stomach
- uterus
- uterine tube
Function:
- secretion and absorption (w/n digestive)
- movement of egg and embryo in uterine tube (can be cilliated to faciliate movement)
Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium
Location:
- Respiratory tract from nasal cavity to bronchi
- portion of male urthera
Function:
-Secretes and propels mucus
Stratified Squamous (Keratinocized and Non-Keratinocized)
Keratinonized
Location:
-epidermis (palms and soles of feet are heavily keratinozed)
Function: protective
Non-Keratinized
Location:
- Tongue
- Oral Mucosa
- Anal Canal
- Vagina
Function: protective
Stratified Cuboidal
Location:
- sweat glands ducts
- egg producing vesicles
- sperm producing ducts
Function:
- contributes to sweat secretion
- secretes ovarian hormones
- produces sperm
Stratified Columnar
-Rare
Location:
- pharynx
- anus
- male urethra
Function:
- secretion
- protection
Transitional Epithelium
Also known as urothelium
Location: Urinary System (ie bladder)
Function: able to stretch and change shape
Arerolar
Location: beneath the epidermis
Function: many fibers that support and bind other tissues as well as empty space for storing tissue fluid. Binds integument to the muscles lying underneath.
Adipose
Location: subcutenous, surrounds other organs (visceral fat) ,netween muscles, within bone marrow, and breast tissue.
Function:contain many fat cells which are able to store nutriets and also serve to insulte the body
Reticular
Location: lymphs, spleen, bone marrow, etc.
Function: Similar to areolar but contain reticular fiber
Regular Dense Connective Tissue
Location: tendons and ligaments
Function: resistant to tension in predictible directions
Dense Irregular Connective Tissue
Location: forms in dermis of skin, join capsules, etc
Function: Resistant to tension in many direction
Elastic Connective Tissue
Location: Ear, Nose, Joints between bones, ends of ribs, bronchial tubes.
Function: similar to dense regular but more elastic
Hyaline
most abundant
Location: typically located at the end of bones in free moving joints, ie. ends of ribs, trachea, larynx
Function: amphorphous (without a defined shape or form) and firm , good at cushioning structure
