Perception
A cognitive process that enables us to interpret and understand our surroundings
Casual Attributions
Suspected or inferred causes of behavior (internal & external factors)
Implicit Cognition
Represents thoughts/beliefs that are activated from memory without conscious awareness and can lead to bias
Attribution Theory
People infer causes for their own and for others’ behavior
Kelley’s Model of Attribution
People make casual attributions through Consensus, Distinctiveness, and Consistency
Fundamental Attribution Bias
Reflects our tendency to attribute one’s behavior to their personal characteristics
Self-Serving Bias
The tendency to take more responsibility for success than failure
Halo Effect
Judgment of someone’s character can be influenced by an overall perception of that person (i.e. smart or nice)
