Psychology
study of behaviour, thought, experience, and how they are affected by physical, mental, social, environmental factors
Scientific Method
way of learning through observations, developing theories to explain observations, using theories to make predictions (observations-> theories-> predictions)
Hypothesis
testable prediction about process that can be observed and measured
- can be supported or rejected… CAN’T be proven
Pseudoscience
dea presented as science but lacks scientific testing (i.e. astrology)
Theory
explanation for brand range of observations that generates new hypotheses and combines numerous findings
-built from repeatedly testing and confirming hypotheses
Principle of Parsimony
simplest explanation for something is the one that is accepted
Critical Thinking
using curiosity and skepticism when evaluating the claims of others and our own beliefs/ assumptions
Biopsychological Model: Definition
Means of explaining behaviour as a result of biological, psychological, socio-cultural factors
Biopsychological Model: Biological Factors
brain structure, chemicals, hormones, drugs…etc
Biopsychological Model: Psychological Factors
memories, emotions, personalities…etc
Biopsychological Model: Social Factors
family, ethnicity, culture…etc
