Week 1: Pathways- Spinocerebellar Flashcards
What function does the spinocerebellar tract serve?
Relay info from proprioceptors and spinal interneurons about activity to the cerebellum so that the cerebellum can adjust movement and posture
2x2 cerebellar tracts
- 2 high fidelity pathways that relay somatotopic info from muscle receptors, tendons, and joints
- 2 pathways that relay internal feedback about activity
High fidelity spinocerebellar pathways
- Posterior spinocerebellar pathway
- Cuneocerebellar pathway
Posterior spinocerebellar pathway
Legs and lower 1/2 of body to cerebellum via ipsilateral inferior cerebellar peduncle
Cuneocerebellar pathway
Arms and upper 1/2 of body to cerebellum via ipsilateral inferior cerebellar peduncle
Internal Feedback Tracts
- Anterior spinocerebellar tract
- Rostrospinocerebellar tract
Anterior spinocerebellar tract
- Transmits info from thoracolumbar spinal cord
- Info enters cerebellum via superior cerebral peduncle
Rostrospinocerebellar tract
Transmits info from cervical spinal cord to ipsilateral cerebellum via superior and inferior cerebellar peduncles
Do we consciously perceive info processed by the spinocerebellar tract?
No
Spinoverebellar tract lesion
Movement is more coordinated w/ vision and not w/ eyes closed
Cerebellar lesion
Eyes open or closed makes no difference
