Q

What is condensation?

A

As water vapour rises, it cools and condenses into tiny water droplets to form clouds

Q

What is percipaitation?

A

Water is released from the clouds and returns to earth in the form of rain, sleet, snow or hail

Q

What is latitude?

A

The angular distance north or south of the equator. The closer you are to the equator the warmer the place. The sun is high and concentrated on a smaller area of the earth

Q

How does the distance from the sea effect the climate?

A

The sea heats up much more slowly than the land during the summer but the sea also takes longer to lose heat during winter. As a result coastal areas have cool summers and warm winters and inland areas have warm summers and cool winters

Q

How does the prevailing winds influence the climate?

A

Since winds influence the temperature and percipitation it depends on what direction the wind comes from and if the wind comes came from the land or the sea

Q

How does the aslect influence the climate?

A

The aspect is the direction that slopes face. If the slope faces the south the slope would be warmer because the sun’s rays strike the ground at a more direct angle

Q

What is altitude?

A

This is how something is above sea level. The higher the place is the colder it is

Q

What is the greenhouse effect?

A

When the greenhouse gases such as CFC’s, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and methane let heat in but prevent most of the heat from getting out. There used to be a balance between heat but now because of the greenhouse gases we use it causes global warming

Stratus clouds

A

A complete layer of clouds

16
Q

Cumulus clouds

A

White fluffy clouds

17
Q

Atmospheric pressure

A

The weight of the air pressing down on Earths surface

18
Q

How winds form

A

When air is heated it expands and gets lighter causing low atmospheric pressure
When aire is cooled it gets heavier and descends causing high atmospheric pressure
Aire moves from high pressure areas and low pressure
