It’s the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place.
What is climate?
It’s the common, average weather conditions at a particular place over a long period of time.
What are the weather elements?

What is a meteorologist?
Someone who studies weather elements
How are weather forecasts put together by meteorologists?
Understanding the patterns in weather prediction.
What is a weather forecast?
It’s a prediction of what the weather will be like at a particular time and place.
Where do meteorologists get their information from?
Satellites, ships and weather stations
Where is the weather forecast put?
Onto weather maps and charts made available to the public.
Who issues weather warnings?
Met Eireann
Who is the weather forecasts especially important to?
- People who work at the sea
- Farmers so they can plan when to harvest crops and sow seeds
- Airlines so they can cancel flights if there will be bad weather
What is a weather station?
It’s a place with equipment and instruments for observing and recording the weather .
Where do weather stations send their information?
Met Eireann and the Irish National Meteorological Service
What are synoptic charts?
The information gathered from the weather stations that’s put into weather maps
What do synoptic charts use in them?
Lines and symbols to show what’s happening with the weather
What do the lines on synoptic charts mean?
They show areas that have equal atmospheric pressure, temperature, sunshine or rainfall, depending on what is being measured.
