The sun’s rays reach the surface of the Earth.

What does the Campbell- Stokes sunshine recorder do?
A
A glass sphere focuses the sun’s rays onto a spot on a sensitive strip of paper slotted into the semi-circular frame surrounding the ball. The sun’s rays burn a mark on the paper and continues to do that as it goes across the sky.

A
The paper’s examined to see how much the sun shone during the day.
