Q

In the McHurks effect, they use the following image to determine what?

A

to see if sound can bias what we see by having the blue balls travel towards each other and ask ppl if they are colliding or pass through each other based on if a sound is present at ‘impact’ or not

Q

In the audio-visual temporal order judgments they tested to see if the PSS was the same as reality wrt perceiving auditory and visual stimuli.
a) what does PSS mean?
b) Which type of processing was found to be faster?
c) Why might this be?

A

a) pt of subjective simultaneity = when you perceive two sensory stimuli to happen at the same time
b) auditory
c) probably b/c we analyse and process more information wrt visual stimuli compared to auditory stimuli so it would take longer to fully analyze this info

Q

This graph shows the PSS at 50% proportion of saying the vision first. Why is the PSS there?

A

PSS is the pt at which one subjectively perceives two sensory stimuli (auditory and visual) at the same time. It is at 50% b/c if they are truly presented at the same time then the person would be purely guessing visual or auditory coming first as neither of them did result in exactly 50% guessing visual to be first theoretically.
