What are trace minerals?

What is the most common result of a mineral deficiency?
In children failure to grow and thrive
What happens if you get too much calcium?
calcifies the kidney and cause
kidney stones
What increases calcium levels in the blood?
Vit. D and parathyroid
What decreases calcium levels in the blood?
Calcitonin
What happens in stroke with regards to calcium and how do you oppose this?
in stroke release of excess Ca kills nearby neurones, can
prevent Ca in blood clotting by using citrate which chelates it (binds and removes it)
How is most of our phosphate stored?
hydroxyapatite (Ca-phosphate)
What can too much Vit. C cause?
haemochromatosis
What is a sign of copper deficiency in children?
Sparse like wire hair
What is wilson’s disease?
Genetic disease causing copper overdose
What is maganese important for?
important for glycogen synthesis
