Vulva Pathology Flashcards
Sx’s = pain and discomfort localized to the vulva region
Bartholin Cyst
Sx’s = smooth, white plaques that coalesce producing parchment/porcelain surface with atrophic labia
Lichen Sclerosus
Morph: thinning of epidermis, degeneration of basal cells, hyperkeratosis, and sclerotic changes
Lichen Sclerosus
What does Lichen Sclerosus slightly increase the risk of?
SCC of the vulva
Sx’s = leukoplakia d/t rubbing and scratching the vulva
Squamous Cell Hyperplasia
Morph: thickening of epidermis and hyperkeratosis with NO atypia
Squamous Cell Hyperplasia
Morph: exophytic, papillary cores covered with thickened squamous epithelium with presence of koilocytic atypia
Condyloma Acuminatum (HPV 6, 11)
Morph: nuclear enlargement, hyperchromasia, cytoplasmic perinuclear halo
Koilocytic atypia
In Situ VIN is associated with which vulvar carcinoma?
Basaloid/Warty carcinoma related to HPV 16
Differentiated VIN is associated with which vulvar carcinoma?
Keratinizing SCC unrelated to HPV
Morph: hyperkeratotic lesions with epidermal thickening, nuclear atypia, increases mitoses, and lack of cell maturity
In Situ VIN
Morph: marked atypia of basal layer and normal-appearing superficial layers
Differentiated VIN
Basaloid/warty carcinoma is associated with which type of lesions?
Vaginal/cervical HPV-related lesions
Keratinizing SCC is associated with which diseases?
Long-standing Lichen Sclerosus
Squamous Cell Hyperplasia
What mutations are common in Keratinizing SCC?
TP53
