  • consists of caudate nucleus, putamen and globus pallidus
  • responsible for gathering info about where the body is in space, what the goal of movement is, memories of previous movements and a strategy for execution
  • it sends the info to the motor cortex

  • looks like a mini brain
  • coordinates movements so that they aresmooth(sequences steps and integrate movements from multiple muscles)

A
  • responsible for movement of the body’s skeletal muscles (e.g. a high five)
  • the PMC on the left hemisphere controls the right side of the body, and vice versa (contralateral organisation)
