Vitiligo Flashcards
What is it?
Chronic skin disorder characterised by areas of depigmentation secondary to loss of melanocytes
Thought to have autoimmune aetiology
What conditions is it associated with?
T1DM
Addison Disease
Autoimmune thyroid disorders
Pernicious anaemia
Alopecia areata
What are clinical features?
Well demarcated areas of depigmented skin
Chalky or milky white colour
Peripheries most affected
Trauma can precipitate new lesions
What is the management?
High SPF suncream on affected areas
Camoflauge make up
Potent topical steroids OD for 1-2 months if localised and not affecting face (not in pregnant women)
Can be a role for topical tacrolimus and phototherapy but caution in light skinned people
