What are Visual Illusions?
A misinterpretation of real sensory information. It is an experience in which there is a mismatch between our perception and what we understand as physical reality.
How do illusions work?
Optical illusions work as a result misguided judgments or erroneous vision. The brain is deceived as it always wants to find continuity in every object. The brain therefore groups things according to continuity, similarity, closure and proximity. When these characteristics are interfered with, the brain tries to reconstruct to what it wants to perceive.
