Behavioural
Focuses on how behaviour is acquired or modified by environmental consequences. Development of behavioural therapy.
Biological
Focuses on the biological or physiological influences on behaviour and mental processes. Includes the brain and our nervous system, immune system and genetics. Major developments: brain chemistry.
Cognitive
Focuses on how we acquire, process, remember and use information about ourselves and the world around us. E.g: Ebbinghau’s nonsense syllables memory experiment.
Socio-Cultural
Focuses on the roles of social and cultural influences on human behaviour and mental processes. Important influences include sex, age, race, income level and the culture in which people grow up. I.e: Milgram’s experiment.
