Vision Flashcards
Cornea
Clear
Bends light coming into the eye
Makes up the anterior 1/6 of fibrous tunic
One of the refractory media of the eyeball
Sclera
The white part of the eyeball
Tough and white
Makes up the posterior 5/6 of the fibrous tunic
Choroid
Brown in color to prevent light scattering in the eye
Makes up the posterior part of the vascular tunic
Ciliary body
ciliary muscle :which controls the shape of the lens
Ciliary body: located at the anterior aspect of the eye
Iris
Allows light to enter the eye
Consists of muscle fibers that when contract either constricts or dilates
Constriction and dilation control the amount of light that enters the eye
Pupil
An opening in the center of the iris in which light enters the eye through
Retina
The rear surface of the eye
Lined with visual receptors
Light from the left side of the world strikes the right half of the retina and vice versa
Optic nerve
Formed by the ganglion cell axons joining
Where the blood vessels enter and leave
Why do some optical illusions work ?
Some optical illusions work because of the way our eyes and brain process images
Others are based on the way we interpret two-dimensional images
Fovea
Made of cones
Notices motions and dim light
Lens
Magnifying glass
