Causes a lytic infection cycle which damages the GI endothelium, and results in an infectious host for up to two weeks
West Nile Virus
small, enveloped RNA Neurotrophic Virus that is vector born, generally asymptomatic but can lead to severe encephalitis
Hepatitis C
enveloped RNA virus that causes liver inflammation and scarring
- treated with protease inhibitors (Telaprevir, bocoprevir)
Influenza
RNA virus with N spikes for mucus degradation, and H spikes for attachment
Influenza Mutation
Thought to be caused by antigenic drift - spontaneous mutation that mixes into a population
Influenza Treatment
Tamiflu/Relenza, Amatadine, Vaccination
Ebola
enveloped RNA virus that causes hemorrhagic fever due to damage in capilaries; zoonotic disease
