- viral labyrinthitis
- vestibular neuronitis
- BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo)
- meniere’s disease
- vertebrobasilar ischaemia
- acoustic neuroma

- sudden onset
- n+v
- hearing may be affected
Dx?
A
viral labyrinthitis

- recurrent vertigo attacks lasting hours/days
- no hearing loss

vestibular neuronitis

- triggered by change in head position
- each episode lasts 10-20 secs

A

associated with HL, tinnitus and sensation of fullness/pressure in one or both ears
Dx?
A
Meniere’s disease

- dizziness on neck extension
Dx?
A
vertebrobasilar ischaemia

- absent corneal reflex
- associated with neurofibromatosis type 2
Dx?
A
acoustic neuroma

A
- posterior circulation stroke
- trauma
- MS
- ototoxicity e.g. gentamicin
