what is otosclerosis?
A
replacement of normal bone by vascular spongy bone, causing progressive conductive deafness due to fixation of stapes at the oval window

what is the age of onset for otosclerosis?
A
20-40 years

what are the features of otosclerosis?
A
- conductive deafness
- tinnitus
- normal tympanic membrane*
- +ve fam hx (autosomal dominant)
*10% have ‘flamingo tinge’ caused by hyperaemia
