A

55 years, less common in younger pts

what are the features of BPPV?

A
  • vertigo triggered by change in head position (e.g. rolling over in bed/gazing upwards)
  • may be assoc. w nausea
  • each episode typically lasts 10-20 secs
  • +ve Dix-Hallpike manoeuvre

what is the prognosis for BPPV?

A

good Px, usually resolves spontaneously after a few weeks-months

sx can recur 3-5 years after dx

how can symptomatic relief be gained for BPPV?

A
  • Epley manoeuvre

- teaching pt exercises they can do themselves at home (vestibular rehabilitation)
