VENTILATION Flashcards
What 3 separate ventilation systems does the A320 have?
- Avionics Ventilation
- Battery Ventilation
- Lavatory and Galley Ventilation
How does the ventilation smoke configuration work?
When smoke is detected in the avionics bay, the BLOWER and EXTRACTOR FAULT lights comes on. When both the BLOWER and EXTRACT pb are set to OVRD, the Aircon Inlet Valve opens. The BLOWER stops but the EXTRACTOR continues operation
With the BLOWER and EXTRACT pb switches in AUTO, what ventilation configuration can you normally expect to see?
Open circuit config on the ground before applying T/O power and closed config after applying T/O power
How does the battery ventilation work?
A venturi in the skin of the aircraft draws air from the space around the batteries and vents is overboard.
Works as long as there’s electrical power
On which ECAM page will you find information about the status of the ventilation system?
PRESS page
With the BLOWER and EXTRACTOR pb switches in OVRD, what happens to the ventilation system?
It goes into the smoke configuration and the BLOWER fan stops. Aircon Inlet Valve opens and the EXCTRACTOR fan keeps operating
When does the Open Circuit Ventilation configuration operate on the ground?
When the skin temperature is above the on ground threshold.
+12 deg C temperature increasing or
+9 deg C temperature decreasing
What is the ventilation system controlled by?
The AEVC (Avionics Equipment Ventilation Computer)
What could a FAULT light in the BLOWER pb indicate?
- Smoke warning is activated
- Computer power supply failure
- Low BLOWER pressure
- Duct overheat
What could an amber FAULT light in the EXTRACTOR pb indicate?
- Smoke warning is activated
- Computer power supply failure
- Low extract pressure
With 2 FAULT lights on the Ventilation panel, are there any other indications of smoke in the system?
Yes, the SMOKE light in the GEN 1 LINE pb
What three configurations can the ventilation system operate in?
-Open Circuit: On the ground
-Closed circuit: In flight after T/O power is set
-Intermediate: In air with skin temp over +35 deg C and increasing or +32 deg C decreasing, a small flap is opened in the extractor valve
With both BLOWER and EXTRACT pb in OVRD (smoke config) what are the positions of the INLET and EXTRACT valves?
INLET valve is closed
EXTRACT valve is partially open
With a FAULT light in both Ventilation pb switches, what happens to the Skin Exch Isol Valve and the blower and extract fans when they are both set to OVRD?
Isolation valve closes
Blower fan stops and Extraction fan continues to run
What does the CARGO HEAT AFT ISOL VALVE amber FAULT light indicate?
Valve disagreement of inlet and outlet valve
What does the CARGO HEAT HOT AIR amber FAULT light indicate?
Duct overheat
Why would the EXTRACT or INLET valves be amber on the ground?
Position disagreement
Valves are in transit
Skin temp is between 9-12 deg C
What can be the possible bad side effect from being in smoke configuration in-flight?
Extract valve is open and can compromise pressurization
In the “Ground mode” at low skin temperatures, how is the circulatory air now cooled?
In closed circuit config when skin temp is below the on-ground threshold
In the “In-flight Mode” at high skin temp which configuration is in operation? What is the definition of “high”?
The intermediate config operates if skin temp is above +35 deg C
What happens when the BLOWER is selected to OVRD?
The system goes into closed circuit config and air from the aircon system is added to ventilate air
How can the cockpit be ventilated from smoke?
By using the RAM AIR pb
When is air conditioning introduced into the avionics compartments?
Abnormal operation and SMOKE configuration
What is the purpose of the avionics ventilation system?
Cools the electrical components in the avionics compartment and on the flight deck it cools instrument and circuit breaker panels
When does the LAV/GALLEY extract fans operate?
Continously when electrical power is available
Is the skin heat exchanger ever bypassed in flight?
Yes, during SMOKE configuration
What is the temperature range on the Cargo Heat Temperature selector?
Cold 5 deg C
Hot 26 deg C
Middle 15 deg C
Describe the components of the cargo ventilation/heating system
How does the Lavatory/Galley ventilation work?
At what temperature will the Cargo Heating Controller automatically close the Hot Air Trim Valve?
At 70 deg C and above
Above what temperature will the Cargo Heating Controller close the Cargo Press Reg Valve?
At 88 deg C or above inlet temp
