What does green color mean on a push-button?
Normal system operation
What does blue color mean on a push-button?
Normal system operation but it is temporary, like anti-ice etc
What does “DU” stand for?
Display Unit
What is the “DMC”, what is its function and how many do we have?
Display Management Computer
We have three DMCs
They acquire and process all the signals received from sensors and other computers to generate the images to be displayed on the PFD, ND, E/WD and SD
What does two dots indicate on a push-button?
That section of the switch is not used
What is the “FWC” and what is its function?
Flight Warning Computer
Two FWCs generate alert messages, memos, aural alerts and synthetic voice messages
What is represented by the “FPV”?
The lateral and vertical trajectory of the aircraft with respect to the ground
What does the presence or VOR 1 in red indicate?
The #1 VOR receiver is inoperative
What does a pulsating green engine parameter indicate?
An ADVISORY that the parameter is about to reach its limit
What does “ECAM” stand for?
Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor
What does “EIS” stand for?
Electronic Instrument System
On the SD page what does a blue color indicate?
An action that you have to perform
On the SD page what does a green color indicate?
Information
On the SD page what does a white color indicate?
System titles
On the SD page what does red and amber colors indicate?
Inoperative systems in order of severity
What two subsystems is the EIS split into?
- EFIS, that displays info on the PFD and ND
- ECAM, that displays info on the E/WD and the SD
What does SDAC stand for and what do they do?
System Data Acquisition Computer
Makes sense of the signals from the senors and sends them on to the FWC and the DMCs
How many screens can a DMC control?
4
What screens are DMC 1 controlling?
CAPT PFD, ND and E/WD + SD
What screens are DMC 2 controlling?
F/O PFD and ND
What happens if DMC 1 fails?
Invalid data msg comes up on screen.
Switching to DMC 3 takes the role of DMC 1 so the PFD, ND, E/WD and SD would be working
What happens if DMC 1 and 3 fails, will you have the E/WD and SD screens available?
Yes, but the Captains PFD and ND would be blank as one DMC can only drive 4 screens

From where does the FWC get information for CAUTION generation?
The SDACs
From where does the FWC get information for WARNING generation?
Directly from the sensors and not from the SDACs
What 4 systems bypasses the SDACs and the FWCs?
- LGCIU (Landing Gear Control Interface Unit) Gear up or down
- FQI Fuel (Quantity Indicator)
- FADEC
- FCDC (Flight Control Data Concentrators) Where are the controls
What do you loose if both SDACs fails?
- Parameters, except from LGCIU, FQI, FADEC and FCDC
- Some Cautions that comes directly from the sensors to the FWC
What do you loose if both FWCs fails?
No WARNINGS or CAUTIONS are generated
Also Attention Getters, Callouts and Delta Vapp are not available
What msg will you see if there is a DMC fault?
“INVALID DATA” on the screen
What msg will you see if there is a DU fault?
“INVALID DISPLAY UNIT” or “F” on the screen
When is the sideslip target blue?
- If CONFIG 1,2 or 3 is selected and
- any ENG N1 is more than 80% and
- the difference between both ENG N1 exceeds 35%
What is the result if you center the blue beta target?
When this index is centered with the roll index the sideslip target for optimum aircraft performance
What happens to the aircraft reference symbol on the PFD when TRK-FPA mode is active?
It reduces in size compared to when it is in HDG-V/S mode
When is Mach nr displayed?
Above M0.5
At what speeds (IAS and M) does the high speed protection start?
VMO +6kt or MMO +0.01
For the ECON speed range in a descent, what is the upper and lower max limits it will display?
- Max is speed target +20 kt limited to VMAX or VMO -3 or MMO -0.006 whichever is lowest
- Lowest is speed target -20 kt limited to green dot, F, S, or VLS whichever is highest
How is Vr indicated on the PFD speed tape?
A cyan dot
After the engine shutdown you see a pulsating STS message. What does it mean?
It is a reminder that the STATUS page holds a maintenance message
What does green dot speed indicate?
The speed corresponding to the best lift-to-drag ratio
When will the green dot speed be visible on the speed tape?
When flying in clean configuration
Can you get a terrain warning on the ND when WXR is selected?
Yes, when an alert is generated and TERR ON ND is not selected the terrain is automatically displayed and the ON light on the TERR ON ND pb comes on
How many ECAM priority levels are there?
3 and that being the highest and most critical
What is the meaning of a green arrow at the bottom of the status page?
Means there are more information to be seen
What is the meaning of green and red collared CB:s?
Green are monitored by ECAM
Red are Wing Tip Brake C/B:s
What is the difference between a Roll Bar and a Yaw Bar on the attitude indicator?
Yaw Bar is displayed on ground during taxi, take-off toll and landing roll and is thicker than the Roll Bar

What does the boxed STS indicate when displayed on the SD?

When is the side stick position indication (white cross) displayed?
When the first engine is started and disappears after lift-off

Pitch: +30 deg up and -15 deg down

Top of Descent arrow is always white
Continue Descent arrow in blue indicates armed and white indicates not armed
What does the yellow speed trend line on the airspeed indicator indicate?
The speed that will be reached in 10 sec with constant acceleration
What would be indicated if the altitude window on the PFD changed from yellow to amber?
The aircraft has deviated from the FCU selected altitude or flight level by 200 ft
What does it mean when you see the magenta target airspeed triangle above Vapp on approach?
GS mini has increased speed due to higher headwind component at your present location than what was calculated at the runway
What happens when you press the EMER pushbutton?
- Pink light flashes at all area Call Panels
- EMERGENCY CALL appears on all ITM indication panels
- High-low chime (repeated 3 times) sounds throughout the cabin loudspeakers
if the UPPER DISPLAY knob was switched to OFF, what would occur?
The E/WD display would automatically transfer to the lower display
With the E/WD displayed on the lower screen, how else can you view SD information?
Press and hold the appropriate system button on the ECAM Control Panel that you wish to view
How long will SD information be available by pressing system button when E/WD is on the lower screen?
30 sec
If both E/WD and SD display units fail, how can you display SD information?
Select ECAM/ND XFER switch to CAPT or F/O
What does the “ALL” pushbutton do?
Displays all the system pages successively in 1 second intervals when held down
if you press the STS pb and the system has no STATUS messages, what will be displayed?
“NORMAL” for 5 sec
What does the EMER CANC do?
- Cancels the current level 1 or Level 2 warning for the
remainder of the flight - Cancels the current the Level 3 warning for that occurance
When does the Landing Memo appear?
Below 2000 ft RA
What speed does Vmax represent and how is it displayed?
It is the lowest of Vmo/Mmo, Vle or Vfe
Is defined by the bottom of the red and black strip along the speed scale
Will the FCU Altitude window ever display dashes only?
No. Pilot selected altitude will always be displayed
Pressing the RCL button, for LESS than 3 seconds, does what?
All warning, caution messages and status pages that have been suppressed by the activation of the CLR P/B are displayed
All the alerts that are still active but inhibits in the whole active flight phases.
If there are no suppressed, it shows NORMAL for 5 sec.
Pressing the RCL button, for MORE than 3 seconds, does what?
EWD displays caution messages that were suppressed by the EMER CANC (cancels all cautions but not all warning can be cancelled, e.g. OVSPD)
When does the T/O MEMO appear on the EWD?
2 min after 2nd engine start, or At least 1 engine running when T/O config button pressed. Disappears at T/O thrust application.
What happens when an ADVISORY is triggered?
Automatic call of the relevant system page on the S/D. the affected parameter pulses green. No aural alerts.
What display mode will not allow you to display Terrain on the ND?
Plan Mode
Does an action line for an ECAM Warning procedure clear once it’s completed?
No, but it does for amber messages
Whats the difference between Red and Amber “LAND ASAP” ECAM messages?
Red is land at nearest available and Amber is land at nearest suitable
What does a green diamond on the ND mean?
Actual aircraft track
What does a blue inverted triangle mean on the ND?
Selected heading
What does the yellow tick mark on top of the ND indicate?
Aircraft heading
What does a pulsating STS message indicate after engines has been shut down?
Its a reminder that the status page holds a maintenance message
If both ECAM displays fail, is it possible to get E/WD indications?
Yes, it must be manually transferred to one of the ND:s

By pressing the RCL key for more than 3 seconds

what is the “OEB REMINDER” function?
Helps identify, on ECAM. any procedure and STS message that is superseded by an OEB procedure
