What is Vasculitis?
inflammation of the blood vessels

Henoch-Schonlein purpura

General vasculitis presentation?
Purpura.
Joint and muscle pain
Peripheral neuropathy
Renal impairment
GI disturbance (diarrhoea, abdominal pain and bleeding)
Anterior uveitis and scleritis
Hypertension
systemic features:
Fatigue
Fever
Weight loss
Anorexia (loss of appetite)
Anaemia
investigations for vasculitis?
ANCA blood test
also: p-ANCA (MPO antibodies); c-ANCA (PR3 antibodies)
Management for vasculitis?
steroids - (prednisolone) vary type of route
Immunosuppressants:
Cyclophosphamide
Methotrexate
Azathioprine
Rituximab and other monoclonal antibodies
