Compression of median nerve in wrist often due to inflammation

Mainly idiopathic
Trauma
Pregnancy

Presentation of carpal tunnel?
A
Gradual onset
Worsen at night
Sensory and motor issues with median innervation
Thenar muscle atrophy

Investigation for carpal tunnel?
A
Nerve conduction studies
Special tests - Phalens and Tinels test

Management of Carpal Tunnel?
A
Resting
Splint at neutral position at night for 4 weeks at least
Steroid injections
