Presentation of reactive arthritis?
Large swollen joint, warm and painful
Synovitis
What associated symptoms are there of reactive arthritis? (Can’t see, pee, or climb a tree)
EYE: conjunctivitis, anterior uveitis
PEE: circinate balanitis, urethritis
CLIMB: keratoderma blenorrhagica, arthritis
Investigation for reactive Arthritis?
Synovial joint aspiration for culture, gram staining and analysis
Crystal examination for gout and pseudogout
HLA B27 gene
Hisotry shows recent illness
Common pathogens for reactive arthritis?
Chlamydia
Gastroenteritis causing bacteria; salmonella, campylobacter, shingles, E. coli
Management for reactive Arthritis?
Ensure not septic
Then NSAIDS
Steroid injections if not working
If not resolved in 6 months, DMARDS and Anti- TNFs
