Vasculitides Flashcards
Weak pulses in the upper extremities
Takayasu arteritis
Granulomas of lung, glomerulonephritis, c-ANCA positive
Granulomatosis with polyangitis
Necrotizing immune complex inflammation of visceral/renal vessels
Polyarteritis nodosa
2-year-old East Asian female
Kawasaki disease
20-year-old East Asian female
Takayasu arteritis
Young male smoker
Thromboangiitis obliterans
Young asthmatics
Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyarteritis
infants and young children, involves the coronary arteries
Kawasaki disease
Most common vasculitis
Giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis)
Associated with Hep B infection
Polyarteritis nodosa
Occlusion of opthalmic artery can lead to blindness
Giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis)
Perforation of nasal septum
Granulomatosis with polyangitis
Unilateral headache, jaw claudication
Giant cell arteritis (temporal)
c-ANCA positive
Granulomatosis with polyangitis
p-ANCA positive
Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with polyangitis (Churg-Strauss), microscopic polyangitis
Treatment for thromboangiitis obliterans
smoking cessation
Treatment for giant cell arteritis
high dose steroids
Associated with polymyalgia rheumatica (joint pain in shoulders, neck, hip girdle)
Giant cell arteritis
increased ESR
Giant cell arteritis
Granulomatous thickening and narrowing of aortic arch and proximal great vessels
Takayasu arteritis
immune complex mediated vasculitis involving the renal and visceral vessels, negative ANCA
polyarteritis nodosa
Signs and symptoms of Kawasaki disease
CRASH and burn - Conjunctival injection, Rash (polymorphous –> desquamating), Adenopathy (cervical), Strawberry tongue, Hand-foot changes (edema, erythema)
burn = Fever (always present)
Tx for Kawasaki disease
IV IG and aspirin
Triad of Granulomatosis with Polyangitis
Focal necrotizing vasculitis
Necrotizing granulomas in the lung and upper airway
Necrotizing glomerulonephritis
Tx of Granulomatosis with Polyangitis
cyclophosphamide, corticosteroids
Asthma, sinusitis, skin nodules or purpura, peripheral neuropathy (wrist/foot drop)
Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangitis (Churg-Strauss)
Triad of Henoch-Schonlein purpura
palpable purpura on buttocks and legs
arthalgias
abdominal pain
Vasculitis secondary to IgA IC deposition
Henoch-Schonlein purpura
Most common childhood vasculitis, usually follows URI
Henoch-Schonlein purpura
