Validity Flashcards
Internal validity
Measure of wether results obtained are solely effected by changes in the variable being manipulated
Eg demand characteristics can cause low internal validity
External validity
Measure of if the data can be generalised to factors outside research environment
Types- ecological( real world)
Temporal( across time)
Face validity
Wether a test appears on the face of it to measure what intents to be measured
Concurrent validity
When a test is similar if match another set of results. Must have correlation coefficient of r=0.80
Lie scale
Set of items used to indicate wether a respondent has been truthful in answering
Improving validity
Questionnaire- lie scale
Observation- covert
Experiment- control group to compare
Standardisation- minimise investigator effects
Single blind- unaware of aims, decreases demand characteristics
Double blind- Ptps and 3rd party unaware of aims
Interpretive validity
Extent to which the researchers interpretation of events match Ptps
May include quotes
Triangulation
Number of different sources as evidence
Eg- data from interview, family and friends
