Experimental Design Flashcards
Experimental design
Different ways testing ptsps can be organised in relation to experimental condition
Independent group design
When 2 separate groups of Ptsps experience 2 different conditions
Use random allocation to control Ptsps variables
Use to asses and compare performance of 2 groups against each other
+ no order effects
- more ptps required/ Ptsps variables
Repeated measures design
All Ptsps take part in both conditions
Use to compare two sets of data from all conditions to see a difference between them
+ few ptps required
- order effects
Matched pairs design
Ptps paired together based on characteristics
Use to reduce confounding Ptsps variables when comparing 2 sets of data
+ avoids order effects/ reduces Ptsps variables
- time consuming to match pairs/ impossible to match exactly unless identical
