uterus Flashcards
features of the epithelium of the Mucosa or endometrium?
consist of simple coloumnar epit. containing sections of ciliated cells and the remainder are secretory cells
features of the lamina propria
thick, has simple tubular glands extending from the endometrial-mymoetrial border to the mucosal surface
what do the simple tubular glands contain?
invagination
what type of epith. is the glandular epit.?
columnar
content of the lamina propria
highly cellular, and rich in fibroblast, and intracellular ground substance. and reticular fibers are abundant
the divisons of the endometrium
stratum basale = basal protion of the endometrium
stratum functionale = the rest of the endometrium
what happens during mentration
the stratum basale is retained while most of the stratum functionale is sloughed off
where are the circumferential arteries located and what do they give off?
located in the middle layers of the myometrium, and give off radial blood vessels which run up to the stratum basale where they branch into short straight vessels,
what do the spiral arteries show?
helical coarse in the stratum functionale
in the proliferative phase
- mitotic figures are seen in the stroma
- endometrium thickens
- straight tubular glands increase in number and length
- lumen is narrow
- coiled arteries are convoluted and do not extend to the superficial third of the lamina propria
in the secretory phase
- endometrium becomes thicker
- glands proliferate and become tortuous showing wide irregular luminal outline
- coiled arteries further elongate and become more convoluted
what happens to the glandular cells
nuclei are displaced towards the lumen and the basal cytoplasm has accumulation of glycogen.
coiled arteries extend to the superficial portion of the lamina propria and undergoes elongation and convolution this is noticed by
the enlarged periarterial stromal cells
where does edema develop
in the highly cellular stroma,
what two distinct layers can we recognize from the stratum funtionale
- stratum compactum
- stratum spongiosum
