Lymph node Flashcards
what is the lymph node surrounded by?
connective tissue capsule
what does the capsule do?
extend in the trabeculae into the lymph node
what forms the cortex and where is located?
lymphatic tissue forms the cortex under the capsule
what can be seen in the cortex?
lymphatic follicles and interfollicular areas
what does the germinal center in the secondary follicle contain
-follicular dendritic cells
the area under the cortex is called and what does it contain?
-called the paracortex
-contains interdigitating dendritic cells
paracortex is T-lymphocyte rich area
what do the dendritic cells do?
they present the antigen to the T-lymphocytes by adhesive interactions which then activates the T-lymphocyte
what is in the medulla?
- medullary cords (darker stained)
- medullary sinus (lighter stained)
- plasma cells
where do the afferent lymphatic vessels enter?
enter at the sinuses at the convexity
what is the sinsus that is between the capsule and the corticol lymphocytes
subscapular sinuses
what is the continuation of the subscapular sinus
intermediate sinus
what happens to the lymph?
flows into the medullary sinus
collected by the efferent lymph vessels via the terminal sinuses
what is the framework of the lymph node made out of?
reticular connective tissue (reticulum cells and reticular fibers)
the post capillary venules are in the, and lined by?
- the paracortex
- high endothelial cells
function of HEV?
for lymph to leave the blood circulation and enter the lymphatic tissue of the lymph node by passing through the walls of the HEV
