tooth Flashcards
division of the tooth
- crown
- neck
- root
what is the crown covered by?
enamel
what is the enamel
- light brownish structure
- consists of prisms of calcium hydrovyapitite crystals
how are the prisms in the enamel bound?
bound together by interprismatic material
what happens during enamel growth?
changes in direction, which give the dark lines of retzius, passing from the dentino enamel junction
what is the enamel devoid of?
collagen fibers
what is the root covered by?
cementum
what is cementum
thin, hard calcified substance, thicker around the apical part of the root and displays small lacunae from which give canaliculi
what do lacunae and canliculu appear as?
appear black since the are filled with air in ground preparations
what forms the main bulk of the tooth?
dentine
what is dentine?
encloses the pulp cavity, consits of 70% calcium hydroxy apatite
what are dentinal tubules?
long narrow canals extending from the dentino-enamel junction
what occupy the dentinal tubules
tomes;s fibers which are long cytoplasmic processes of odontoblasts.
what is the hyaline layer?
outermost part of the root dentine, also called granular layer of tomes
