Ureter and urinary bladder Flashcards
what is the epithelium lining of the mucosa?
transitional epitheluim which occurs in the urinary passage
the lamina propria
is a thin dense connective tissue layer, which supports the epithelium of the mucosa
the urinary epithelium
appears to be a stratifed epith. which consists of 4-5 layers of cells in a relaxed ureter
what cells occupy the basal layer?
small cuboidal or small coloumnar
the middle and luminal layer is occupied by?
middle - pear cells and, outer - umbrella cells
urothelium
is a pseudostratified epith, in which all cells are in contact with the basal lamina including the cytoplasmic extensions of the umbrella cells
what network is found in the L.P? and what does it form?
rich elastic network is found in the lamina propria, which forms thin folds penetrating into the epithelium
what happens to the mucous membrane of the empty ureter?
it is thrown up into folds
where is the muscularis externa located in the ureter and what is it composed of?
in the upper part of the ureter, composed of inner -longitudinal str. muscle, outer layer - circularly or obliquely oriented.
what is the adventitia and what does it contain?
loose connective tissue and composed of fibrocytes, collagen, and elastic fibers. contains numerous blood and lymphatic vessels, and a rich nerve supply.
where is the ureter and larger blood vessels embedded into?
the retroperitoneal fatty connective tissue
what is the function of the serosa?
to cover the ventral surface of the ureter
