Common cold : 5-10 times per year in winter months Spread through droplets symptoms: -sneezing -nasal blockage -nasal obstruction -fever/systemic symptoms

Bacteria: -Streptocci -Staph aureus -mycoplasma -haemophilius influenza -strep. pyogens Viruses: -Parainfluenza -rhinovirus -RSV -EB virus -Adenovirus -influenza A/B

Croup treatment: oral dethamethasone
Epiglottis treatment: intubation and antibiotics

Differences between croup and epiglottitis
A
epiglottitis: rare, stridor, drooling
Croup: common, stridor, barking cough, hoarse voice, croyza

Tonsilitis and pharyngitis
A
Tonsilitis: bacterial pharyngitis: viral Throat swab: -takes some time -can either do nothing or start on antibiotics -do not prescribe amoxycillin
