A
- eliminating substances while preserving substances needed for body to function
- kidneys, urinary ducts, and bladder

- bean shaped
- back of abdomen cavity

Kidney: renal cortex
A
- outer layer, one million nephrons (tiny filters)
- each nephron = cluster of capillaries called glomerules, which are surrounded by Bowman’s capsule, which lead to tubule

Renal arteries
A
- where kidneys receive blood from branches aorta
- filter blood, reabsorb materials, secrete waste and excess water in urine
- renal arteries = arterioles= glomerulus= filtered

Distal convoluted tube
A
- other substances (urea and drugs) are removed from blood
- adjust pH by secreting hydrogen ions

Renal medulla
A
- unabsorbed materials flow out from collecting tubules to renal pelvis as urine

- drained from kidneys through ureters to urinary bladder where it is stored until you gotta go.
