- return excess fluid tissue to the bloodstream
- return protein from capillaries
- transports fats from digestive tract
- disposal of debris and cellular waste
- lymph capillaries, lymph vessels, and lymph ducts

-lymph nodes, spleen, appendix, adenoids, thymus, tonsils, and small patches of tissue in small intestine

- each node contains lymphocytes and plasma cells

- secretes hormones and is major site of lymphocyte production

A
- upper left quadrant, behind stomach and below diaphragm
- filter unwanted materials from blood, and help fight infections
- made up of lymphoid tissue
- blood vessels connected by splenic sinuses
- gastrolienal ligament connects stomach to spleen
- lienorenal ligament connects kidney to spleen
