  • processes blood that passes through the digestive system
  • nutrient rich blood is supplied by hepatic portal vein
  • O2 blood comes from hepatic artery, blood leaves through hepatic veins
  • functional units are called lobules

Liver responsibility

A
  • production of bile, blood plasma proteins, cholesterol
  • storage of excess glucose in form of glycogen
  • regulate amino acids
  • process hemoglobin
  • conversion of ammonia to urea
  • purification of blood (clears out drugs and other toxins)
  • regulate blood clotting
  • controlling infections by boosting immune favors and removing bacteria
