- largest solid organ of body
- largest gland
- located below diaphragm
- made up of 4 lobes (right, left, quadrate, and caudate lobes)

- processes blood that passes through the digestive system
- nutrient rich blood is supplied by hepatic portal vein
- O2 blood comes from hepatic artery, blood leaves through hepatic veins
- functional units are called lobules

A
- production of bile, blood plasma proteins, cholesterol
- storage of excess glucose in form of glycogen
- regulate amino acids
- process hemoglobin
- conversion of ammonia to urea
- purification of blood (clears out drugs and other toxins)
- regulate blood clotting
- controlling infections by boosting immune favors and removing bacteria

A
- 6-10 inches long and located by back of abdomen behind stomach
- wider (head) lies near the duodenum, tail lies near spleen
- made up of exocrine and endocrine tissue
- secretes hormones into blood stream

- secretes enzymes to small interims that help breakdown fats and proteins
- secretes sodium bicarbonate to neutralize stomach acid that reaches small intestine
