Urinary Pathology Flashcards
Inflammation of the glomeruli within the kidney.
glomerulonephritis
Inflammation of connective tissue that lies between the renal tubules.
interstitial nephritis
Kidney stones (renal calculi). Composed of uric acid or calcium salts.
nephrolithiasis
Group of clinical signs and symptoms caused by excessive protein loss in urine. Two major signs are edema and hypoalbuminemia.
nephrotic syndrome (nephrosis)
Multiple fluid-filled sacs (cysts) within and on the kidney. Can be asymptomatic into adulthood, or may onset in infancy or childhood and cause renal failure.
polycystic kidney disease (PKD)
Inflammation of the lining of the renal pelvis and renal parenchyma.
pyelonephritis
Cancerous tumor of the kidney in adulthood.
renal cell carcinoma
Decrease in excretion of wastes results from impaired filtration function. Large spectrum of severity.
renal failure
High blood pressure resulting from kidney disease.
renal hypertension
Malignant tumor of the kidney occurring in childhood.
Wilms tumor
Malignant tumor of the urinary bladder.
bladder cancer
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) is not secreted, or there is a resistance of the kidney to ADH.
diabetes insipidus (DI)
Insulin is not secreted adequately or tissues are resistant to its effects.
diabetes mellitus (DM)
