What are the movements of the scapulae?
elevation, depression, protraction, retraction, upwards and downwards rotation
What are the muscles of scapular movements? (6)
Trapezius, rhomboids (major and minor), levitator scapulae, subclavius, pectorals minor, serratus anterior
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Trapezius?
O - SP’s C1-T12, base of skull
I - spine of scapula, acromion, lateral clavicle
A - elevation, depression, protraction, rotation
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Rhomboids (major and minor)
O - Minor - Sp’s C7/T1
Major - SP’s T2-T5
I - Medial border of scapula
A - Retraction, downward rotation of scapulae
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Levator Scapulae?
O - Transverse processes of C1-C4
I - Superior angle of scapulae
A - Elevation, downward rotation
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Subclavius?
O - First rib
I - Inferior surface of clavicle
A - depresses clavicle
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Pectoralis minor?
O - ribs 3-5
I - Coracoid process of scapulae
A - Depression, protraction, downwards rotation

O - Sternum, costal cartilage, medial clavicle
I - lateral lip of inter tubercular groove
A - flexion, adduction, medial rotation
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Deltoid?
O - Lateral clavicle, spine of scapula, acromion
I - deltoid tuberosity
A - whole muscle - Abduction
- anterior part - flexion, medial rotation
- posterior part - extension, lateral rotation

O - SP’s of inferior thoracic and all lumbar vertebrae, ribs 8-12, thoracolumbar fascia

Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres minor, Subscapularis

O - Supraspinus fossa

What are the lateral rotators?
Teres minor, infraspinatus, posterior deltoid
What are the parts of the distal humerus? (8)
Shaft, Coranoid fossa, lateral epicondyle, medial epicondyle, olecranon fossa, trochlea, capitulum, condyle
What do the olecranon and coranoid fossa allow for?
larger range of motion, accept olecranon and coracoid process
What are the parts of the proximal radius and ulna? (7)
Trochlear notch, olecranon, olecranon process, coracoid process, ulnar tuberosity, radial notch (of ulna), radial head
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Biceps brachii?
O - Long head - supraglenoid tuberosity
Short head - coracoid process of scapula
I - radial tuberosity
A - flexion at elbow
What are the origin, insertion and actions of Brachialis?
O - Distal half of humerus
I - Ulnar tuberosity/coranoid process of ulna
A - flexion at elbow
What are the muscles in the anterior compartment of arm?
Biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis (action at GH joint only)
What are the muscles of the posterior compartment of the arm?
Triceps brachii, anconceus
What are the origin, insertion and actions of triceps brachii?
O - Long head - infraglenoid tubercle
Lateral head - Lateral humerus
Medial head - deep on distal half of humerus
I - Olecranon process
A - extension at elbow
