What is croup?
A
Croup is a viral upper respiratory disease commonly found in young children between 6 months and 6 years. peak 2 years.

what are the signs and symptoms of croup?
A
- barking cough
- agitation
- distress
- cyanosis
- SPO2 less than 92%
- increased use of accessory muscles
- rib retraction

what is the treatment for croup?
A
BLS. if patient increases lethargy and decreases stridor (increase respiratory distress) give 5mg in 5ml nebulised adrenaline.

what is epiglottitis?
A
Epiglottitis involves bacterial infection of the epiglottis which causes inflammation of the eppiglottisand larynx. which can lead to severe respiratory distress.

what are the signs and symptoms of epiglottitis?
A
- fever/ sepsis
- difficulty in swallowing and breathing
- drooling
- hoarseness of voice
- stridor.
- (SNORED) spesis, no cough, rapid onset, expiratory snore, drooling

what is the treatment for epiglottitis?
A
BLS. immediate transport

what are main differences between eppiglottits and croup?
A
- croup is viral, eppiglottitis is bacterial
- croup had cough, eppiglottitis NO cough
- croup gradual onset over 1-2 days, eppiglottitis rapid onset
