What is Meningococcal Disease?
A
a rapidly progressing, life-threatening systemic inflammatory response to a bacterial infection.

What are the clinical signs of Meningococcal Disease?
A
signs of sepsis: 2 or more of temp lower than 36C or higher than 38C, HR higher than 90, RR higher than 20, BP lower than 90.
- typical purpuric rash
- flu-like symptoms
- meningeal symptoms

what are some meningeal signs?
A
- headache
- photophobia
- neck stiffness
- altered conscious state

what is the management for Meningococcal Disease?
A
- make sure chest is clear- provide 20ml/kg of NS over 30 mins.
- IV ceftriaxone 1g IV dilute with 10ml water for injection. admin over 2 mins
- IM IG dilute with 3.5ml of 1% lignocaine to make 4ml
