What is ACS?
A
ACS is a group of conditions which cause decreased blood flow to the coronary arteries. includes: STEMI, non-STEMI, and unstable angina

what is a STEMI?
A
Myocardial infarction caused by occlusion of a coronary artery which shows ST segment elevation on the ECG.

What is unstable angina?
A
angina caused by disruption of an atherosclerotic plaque with vaso spasm. often associated with new unprovoked onset.

what are the clinical signs of ACS? (4)
A
- nausea and vomiting
- shortness of breath
- clammy skin
- pain and discomfort

what is the management goal for ACS?
A
to achieve timely reperfusion of the myocardium and give pain relief to reduce the cardiac workload.
