Acute Pulmonary Oedema Flashcards
1
Q
What is APO?
A
fluid accumulation on the lung tissue and alveoli leading to decreased gas exchange.
2
Q
what are the signs and symptoms of APO? (5)
A
- severe respiratory distress
- fine bilateral crackles
- tachycardia
- altered consciousness
- chest pain
3
Q
what is the cause of cardiogenic APO?
A
left ventricular failure. left ventricle fails to pump blood. increased ventricle end diastolic pressure, increased hydro-static pressure in pulmonary circuit, fluid build-up.
4
Q
what is the the steps to managing APO? (4)
A
-Sit the patient up
-provide oxygen therapy
-GTN
CPAP to splint alveoli.
