A
  • locate second intercostal space (below second and above 3rd rib)
  • mid clavicular line
  • insert 14g cannula at right angle to chest
  • check for air to escape

A

the progressive build up of air in the pleural space which causes uncoupling of the lung from the chest wall. tensioning is when the pressures a so high it causes serious physiological distress.
