STAT
Needs to be ordered and collected immediately as it the highest priority for life threatening emergencies.
Timed
Entered as an urgent with desired collection time
Results in 2-4 hours
Daily
Orders that stand for 5 days and then needs to be re-evaluated.
Sputum for Culture
Used for diagnosis of many respiratory infections. Done before antimicrobials.
Sputum comes deep within the bronchi
If spit or saliva is mixed in, repeat.
Urinalysis (U&A)
Tests for bacterial infections
Stool for Occult Blood
Series of three tests. Three separate stools samples needed
Large doses of iron can create false positive.
FIT Test
Fecal Immuncochemical Test
A screening test for colon cancer
Tests for hidden blood in stool
Only detects blood in the lower intestines
Medicines and foods do not interfere with the tests.
Stool for Clostridium Difficile
A random stool sample is collected
The stool should not be collected with other body fluids
If mucous or blood is present should be included with specimen.
Urine for Culture and Sensitivity
This test is performed to grow and identify organisms, mainly bacteria and fungi.
The sensitivity tests for sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics.
Blood Glucose
The principal sugar produced by the body from food, especially carbs but also proteins and fat.
Cytology
Examination of cells from the body cells from the body under a microscope.
A urine specimen is to see how they look and function. Tests for infection, inflammatory disease of the urinary tract, cancer and precancerous conditions.
Hgb A1c
Hemoglobins with glucose attached. This test evaluates the average amount of glucose in the blood over 90 days.

A condition of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus characterized by a combination of ketosis and acidosis.
