Ipratropium
BN: Atrovent
Bronchodilator
Bronchospasm spasms, COPD
Monitor Lung sounds, heart rate and rhythm
Fluticasone
BN: Flovent
Corticosteroids
Anti inflammatory and vasoconstriction
Budesonide
BN: Pulmicort
Glucocorticoid
Used to control wheezing and SOB. Anti inflammatory actions
Check for signs of infection as this drug may mask infection.
Needs to be administered regularly to have effect.
Albuterol
BN: Salbutamol, Ventolin
Bronchodilator
Causes bronchodilation
montelukast
BN: Singulair
Bronchodilator
When used regularly it inhibits luekotrienes. These chemical react to allergens.
Should be taken at night but can cause severe side effects of mood.
Budesonide-Formoterol
BN: Symbicort
Combination drug: Corticosteroid and long acting beta agonist
Anti inflammatory and vasodilation
Do not take with other quick relief inhalers like Albuterol.
Tiotropium
BN: Spiriva
Bronchodilator
Inhibits interaction of acetylcholine at receptors sites on smooth muscle
