Asepsis
Process for keeping away disease-producing microorganisms.
Antiseptic
Discourages the growth of microorganism. Aseptic refers to the absence of microorganisms.
Aseptic Technique
Means using practice and procedures to prevent contamination from pathogens. Involves applying the strictest rules to minimize the risk of infection.
Contamination
To soil, stain, or infect by contact or association of bacteria
Cross Contamination
The process by which bacteria or other microorganism are unintentionally transferred from one substance or object to another with harmful effect.
Event Related Sterlility
Defined as the period of time durning which sterility is presumed to be maintained.
Fomite
An inanimate object or substance that is capable of transmitting infectious organisms from one individual to another.
Sterile
Clean and free from bacteria
Aseptic Conscious
Understanding the circumstances that call for medical or surgical asepsis.
