Stoma
Portion of the bowel that is stored onto the abdomen
Effluent
Discharged fecal matter
Ileostomy
Surgically created opening into the last portion of the small intestine called ileum
Peristalsis
Mass movement of muscle contraction in the colon.
Colostomy
Surgical opening in the colon
Irrigation
Specific equipment for a continuous flow of water or liquid medication to an organ or wound.
Applicance
A collection tool to collect discharged from an ostomy.
Colectomy
An operation to remove all or part of the colon (large intestine). The bowel is then reconnected or an opening of the bowel (ostomy) is created on the abdominal wall to allow the contents of the bowel to exit from the body.
Excoriation
Refers to a place where your skin is scarped or abraded.
Fistula
Is an abnormal connection between two body parts, such as an organ or blood vessel and another structure.
Obstruction
Mechanical or function blockage of the intestines which prevents the normal movement of the products of digestion.
Revision Stoma
Used to divert faeces or urine outside the body where it can be collected in a bag at the skin.
