Unit 5 - Lower Limb: Angles (Ex. IV) Flashcards
Where does the angle of inclination go?
head and neck of femur –> shaft of femur
Where does the torsion angle go?
head of femur –> neck of femur
Where does the Q angle go?
ASIS –> midline through patella
What is the relationship between angles?
decreased angle of inclination ==> increased Q angle ==> patella moves L ==> tibial tuberosity more inward ==> femur more diagonal ==> knock-kneed ==> genu valgum
increased angle of inclination ==> decreased Q angle ==> femur more vertical ==> bow-legged ==> genu varum
What condition is more common in females?
knock knees from genu valgum (decreased angle of inclination and greater Q angle)
How does the patella move during knee flexion?
patella moves down ==> patellar ligament pulled on and tibia moves P
How does the patella move during knee extension?
patella moves up ==> pulls on patellar tendon
