UNIT 1: brachial plexus Flashcards
what make up the roots of the brachial plexus?
union of anterior rami of c5/ c6/ c7/ c8/ t1
how are the trunks formed?
superior: c5/c6
middle: c7
inferior: c8/ t1
what do the trunks divide into?
anterior and posterior divisions
how do the divisions combine to form the cords?
lateral - anterior divisions of superior/middle trunks
medial - anterior division of inferior trunk
posterior - all posterior divisions
what are the terminal nerves that the cords branch into?
- musculocutaneous nerve (lateral cord)
- median nerve (lateral/ medial cord)
- ulnar nerve (medial cord)
- axillary/ radial nerve (posterior cord)
how else can the brachial plexus be divided?
- supraclavicular: roots/trunks
- infraclavicular: cords
what muscles does the dorsal scapular nerve innervate?
rhomboids

subclavius`
what muscle does the long thoracic nerve innervate?
serratus anterior
what muscle does the lateral/medial pectoral nerves innervate?
pectoralis major/ minor
what do the medial cutaneous nerves innervate?
skin of arm and forearm
what muscle does the upper/lower subscapular nerves innervate?
subscapularis/ teres major
what muscle does the thoracodorsal nerve innervate?
latissimus dorsi
what muscle does the axillary nerve innervate?
teres minor/ deltoids
